June 9th is National Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie Day. As far as I am concerned, I’ll take any excuse I can get to eat strawberry-rhubarb pie!
Although many people think rhubarb is a fruit, it is actually a vegetable. Guaranteed to make you pucker up, you can find the tangy and tart perennial at many local Farmer’s Markets across the nation.
Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie Recipes:
- The Amateur Gourmet – Adam Roberts shows you just how to whip up this “You Will Rue the Day That You Don’t Make this Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.” ‘Nuff said!

Rhubarb Extras:
- Rhubarb and Strawberry Ice Cream – It goes without saying , you need something to top that
delicious pie, right? Add a scoop of homemade Rhubarb and Strawberry Ice Cream from Martha Stewart. Sweeet! - Strawberry Rhubarb Cheesecake – Although this may not technically be your traditional pie, but as a self-described cheesecake-aholic, I was compelled to include this recipe from the Biscuit Pusher.
- Natural Rhubarb Hair Dye - For those with light brown or golden hair, make this simple and natural hair color rinse using rhubarb root.
- 3 Tbsp. rhubarb root
- 2 Cups of water
- Simmer rhubarb root in water for 15 minutes, cool and strain. After testing on a small section of hair, pour through hair as a rinse.
