National sandwich month: where's the best sandwich in Western NY?

August is National sandwich month, and let's celebrate the best sandwiches, hoagies, grinders, subs, bombers, dagwoods, paninis, Cubans, grilled, hot, cold and baked in Western NY.

First stop, a little known place that doesn't get enough credit. Dagwood's and more is a locally owned sandwich shop that also serves pizza, baked chicken fingers, wraps, and fresh baked goods. Stop in or call to get the Sandwich of the Day special.

Dagwood's & More has 2 locations in the city of Buffalo, and you can visit the website for hours of operation and to order on line.

1832 Main Street (corner of West Delavan near Delavan College station & Canisius College)

298 Main Street
Cathedral Park
Buffalo NY 14202

Dagwood's & More is a little pricier than your average sub shop, but not by much. You can get a specialty sandwich on a freshly baked hard roll for about $4.99, an 8-inch "Dagwood" for about $5.25 and an 18-inch "Dagwood" will set you back about $7.49, but it's enough for two and then some.

They also have a signature breakfast sandwich, the Eggwood. It's a hearty breakfast sandwich, served anytime Two scrambled eggs, American cheese, and your choice of ham or sausage, or bacon (optional), on a hard roll. The original Eggwood is $2.25, with ham or sausage it's $2.95 and with bacon it's $3.95, it will get your day started just right.

Dagwood's and More offers an assortment of fresh baked goods daily, and offers not only cold sandwiches and Dagwoods, but baked sandwiches and Dagwoods, salads and wraps as well.

All sandwiches, Dagwoods, baked goods and salads are of an excellent quality. The pizza is good, but not the best, and the baked chicken fingers lack the taste and crunch of traditional deep fried chicken fingers, but they are good.

Those are quite reasonable prices for sandwiches; I'd expect nothing less from a place called Dagwood's!
