Today is National Puppy Day 2014! According to My Fox Detroit.com on March 21, today millions of Americans and people around the world can show their love and appreciation for puppies. Known as "Man's best friend" dogs have been a part of households around the world for decades, and when they are adopted as puppies these furry creatures aren't just our friends, but they become part of our family.

According to National Puppy Day.com, this day was created back in 2006 by Colleen Paige. Paige is a Celebrity Pet & Home Lifestyle Expert and Author. She also founded National Dog Day and National Cat Day.

There are many ways you can celebrate National Puppy Day. First and foremost you can adopt a puppy. Not only will you be helping out by giving a dog a great home, he or she may (and probably will) become your new best friend.

If you can't adopt, making a donation to a local pet shelter is always a great thing to do and it is much appreciated. Without people giving most shelters couldn't stay open.

Of course if you are already a pet owner, you could spoil you puppy today by giving him or her some extra treats or just spending more time with them. After all, they are right there no matter how tough your day was to greet you the second you walk in the door with unconditional love.
