National Public Gardens Day is an event celebrated on the Friday before Mother’s Day each year.

Initiated and promoted across the nation by the American Public Gardens Association and Rainbird it is a time when many of the nation’s public gardens will have special events and activities for visitors to explore and discover their local public gardens.

To commemorate this special day the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas is having special activities on May 9 and 10 for members and for those with a paid admission. There will be raffles and guided tours of the gardens.

Master Gardeners and Horticulturists will be there to answer any questions you may have about the plants and gardening in the Las Vegas desert climate.

The activities will begin at 10 am and continue to 6 pm. Guided garden tours are scheduled hourly from 10 am to 4 pm.

Visiting the Springs Preserve public garden with the family is great way to learn about each the garden’s commitment to education, research and environmental stewardship.

The cacti are blooming now so bring along your camera and enter your pictures in the photo contest of the APGA. To enter a photo click on this website.
