The DC Brawlers, based out of Washington, D.C., is an official team of the National Professional Grid League (formerly known as the National Pro Fitness League). The team of male and female functional fitness athletes, including top athletes from the CrossFit Games, competes together under the team's the core principles of integrity, toughness, ferocity and strength.
This is the NPGL's first season of competition. After another year of the fast-growing Reebok CrossFit Games completed, with the CrossFit Games Team Series also kicking off this August, this Summer will be the biggest ever for professional fitness competition.
The Brawlers’ roster boasts some of the top names in the sport as well as emerging athletes ready to make their mark. Three athletes, Christy Adkins, Jerry Hill and Alec Smith, hail from the Mid-Atlantic States and will surely be hometown favorites as the team and league start its inaugural season this month.
Two matches are set for the DC Brawlers at the Patriot Center at George Mason University: August 26 against the Philadelphia Founders and September 6 against the New York Rhinos.
“I’m thrilled with the team we’ve been able to put together thus far,” said DC Brawlers head coach Justin Cotler. “This group of athletes will be a force of experience and fitness diversity in the NPGL. From powerlifting expertise to competitive gymnastics athletes, I can’t wait to get this group together and show the community what we're all about.”
For those interested in attending some of the first matches in the NPGL's history, tickets for the National Pro Grid League matches on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. are $125, $55, $40, $25 and $15 (plus applicable service charges). Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, Phonecharge (1-800-745-3000), and Patriot Center box office.
