Sept 20 2013 was National POW/ MIA Day . It is not a Federal Holiday. In fact, not a lot of people even know about it. It was a day to remember and honor those US servicemen and women who were taken prisoner of war or suffered at fate unknown and their bodies have not been repatriated home. Short ceremonies were held across the country. one such service took place in front of the municipal building in Bristol Twp., Bucks County.
Pennsylvania Lt.Governor Jim Cawley , along with State Rep Tina Davis , Senator Tommy Tomlinson showed up to say a few words. Cawley's remarks were about a POW who lied about his age to fight in the Civil War. He was captured twice and held as a POW.
During the ceremony, the VFW post in Bristol Twp. had a table set up for a meal, to honor those soldiers who were not able to have a meal with their families. A wreath was laid at a statue and a plaque dedicated to local soldiers was rededicated.
The short ceremony lasted less than 45minutes. It was attended by a small handful of veterans from Vietnam or or World War 2.
