National Popcorn Day celebrated by seniors at local assisted living community (Photos)

Saturday, January 19, 2013, Delaware Highlands Assisted Living in Kansas City, Kansas celebrated National Popcorn Day courtesy of a local favorite, Velvet Crème Popcorn. Velvet Crème Popcorn has been a Greater Kansas City beloved candy, treat and popcorn vendor since 1937.

National Popcorn Day has historically been celebrated at the end of January. This year the date was decreed as January 19th, 2013. Seniors were treated to snack size popcorn bags from Velvet Crème Popcorn and a movie. As the popcorn was being handed out to seniors several of them shared stories of buying this favored popcorn for their children and grandchildren, all bringing back wonderful memories.

Seniors reminisced about all the recollections that popped up from eating this treasured treat. It is remarkable how many favorite pastimes serve popcorn as a preferred treat to include: movies, baseball games, zoos and fairs. Ah, such delightful musings all from the munching of some popcorn.

The gift given to Delaware Highlands from Velvet Crème Popcorn was the joy of memories past. For as long as we have cheerful recollections from bygone days then we can continue to warm ourselves all winter long from the inside out, along with those around us.
