This weekend is National Pet Adoption Weekend. November 12 and 13, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at all Pet Co locations.
Should anyone be considering the welcoming of a pet into his or her lives, this would be an excellent time to make that step. Information suggests that 5-7 million animals are placed with shelters and rescues every year. These animals are beautiful wonderful pets looking for a little love and commitment from a person. This is not a one step and we are done, but rather a forever home for these pets. They really do give back more than we will ever expect.
Many times we hear about someone adopting a pet from the shelter or rescue and that animal seems to know what all of the adoption is about. This seems to support the philosophy that animals have a greater connection to us than some may realize. Just last week in the Seattle WA area the news ran a story about a dog adopted, then returned because the family was not sure it was a good match. Once the pet was returned the family realized that the dog was just what they had wanted and went back to the shelter to retrieve their dog. That very same night the FF Best Friend was brought to its forever home, there was an electrical fire and the FF Best Friend is credited with saving the family (smoke detector was not working). This is not to say all stories end with a rescue for the human, however, it certainly does for the pet. Imagine the loneliness of no family, no extra hugs, pats on the head or Good Boy, Atta Girl.
Pet Co teams with the Humane Society to help place these pets in forever homes. We will find young puppies and kittens, adult dogs and cats, and senior pets. We will find big and small, short hair and long hair, every color you might want. These pets are groomed for temperament and compatibility at the time of adoption.
We can not all run out and adopt a pet, but if you have been thinking about the possibility of adopting, why not go have a look. For more information go to http://www.petco.com/adoption, check with your local Humane Society or go to http://www.iamshome4theholidays.com.
This weekend is Veterans Day Weekend. As we honor our Veteran’s who have risk and lost so much for our freedom, please remember animals have played and are still playing a truly vested role with our Armed Services and Veterans.
