In some surprising TV news, ABC Television is looking at bringing the popular National Lampoon "Vacation" franchise to television. According to TV Line on Jan. 10, the series will actually star the original cast leads Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo.
Chevy Chase headlines the popular first movie and then went on to have further adventures in "European Vacation," the superior "Christmas Vacation" and finally in "Vegas Vacation." Just last year, rumors flew around that a rebooted "Vacation" franchise was in the works with "The Hangover's" Ed Helms, but that ended due to creative differences.
Helms wanted to star in the same R-rated adventures that Chevy Chase did, but the studios wanted family friendly PG-13 fare. As a result, Ed Helms pulled out of the project.
Now, it looks like there might be more vacations in story, on television. Interestingly, since it is an ABC Television show, it will have to remain family friendly.
It is also perfect timing for Chevy Chase since the popular TV show "Community" just killed off his character to a heart attack, opening his availability for other endeavors.
Aaron Kaplan ("Terra Nova") will serve as the "Vacation" TV series producer and the search is on for a writer to adapt the original movie into what could be a sustainable TV series.
