In an age of online shopping and the success of major sample sale websites such as Rue La La and Gilt Groupe, some of us begin to wonder: when did shopping became so impersonal? Though we do have to admit there is a time for designer samples and late night purchases from Shopbop, at the end of the day nothing can replace the feeling of walking into your favorite boutique: being greeted by associates who know how to fit you better than your own relatives while shopping a carefully selected mix only a true boutique buyer could bring together in one place.
This year two business savvy fashionistas Olga Vidisheva and Polina Raygorodskaya set off to premiere a semi annual shopping event called Boutique Week which would bring together America’s boutiques for days of sales and discounts. Similar to Fashion’s Night Out, Boutique Week will span coast to coast, from Los Angeles, New York, and Boston. Shoppers need to visit Boutique Week’s website, sign up, and provide the participating boutiques with an access code for in store discounts between October 24-31st! Some of Boston’s participating boutiques include: Cotelac, Karmaloop, Lit Boutique, National Jean Company, Suneri, and many more. In addition to bringing back the magic of shopping and stimulating the local economy, Boutique Week has partnered with Dress for Success, making significant financial contributions to the charity which serves disadvantaged women.
