The Education Alliance sponsors a state-wide chapter of the Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society for Arkansas high schoolers. Admission is open to all eligible homeschooled students in grades 11 and 12. In order to be eligible in their senior year, the application must be received no later than March 31. Listing membership in an honor society can give a boost to college applications.
Requirements
Any legally homeschooled student in Arkansas is eligible to join if they meet the following criteria. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or greater on a 4.0 scale. A copy of the student's transcripts is required. They must be in grades 11 or 12. Homeschoolers must have a score of 1800 combined on the SAT, 26 composite score on the ACT, or a combined score of 180 on the PSAT. All applicants must provide proof that they are legally homeschooling. Tests must be from a group test. Tests scores from parent administered tests are not acceptable. A copy of the official test score must accompany the application.
Fees
A $10 application fee is the only fee associated with joining the honor society. If a student would like a gold cord for graduation, one can be ordered for an additional $10.
To apply students can download the application, fill it out and mail it back to the address on the form. High school seniors must have the application submitted no later than March 31.
Why apply
Participation in an honor society shows colleges and universities that a student is performing at a high level. Membership will have a positive impact on college admissions. For high school homeschoolers, it is never too early to start preparing for college. Students who are in grades 9 and 10 should start preparing now for admission to Eta Sigma Alpha by their Junior year.
