National Guard soldier receives special honor in Afghanistan

Specialist Sarina Butcher, Checotah, was honored in Afghanistan on Sunday. The Oklahoma native died in combat last November.
 
The Bagram Air Force Base has named part of the Pat Tillman facility in Butcher’s honor. There will be a plague that tells her story on the wall in the facility. Soldiers will use the area bearing her name for meals, a gym, internet access and special events.
 
Specialist Butcher was the youngest 45th Infantry soldier to die in combat, at only 19 years old. She was also the first female soldier to die from the 45th.
 
The 45th Infantry was first organized in 1923. The 45th Infantry Museum is located in Oklahoma City. They have a long record of service to our country. They were part of the 157th Infantry Regiment that liberated the concentration camp in Dachau during World War II.
