Who knew, but April is apparently the month to end all months when it comes to food holidays. With a different holiday for each day this month, there is no end to the culinary celebration! Here are a few of my favorite holidays that fit within the budget-friendly category:
April 12: Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day
Served with a steaming bowl of my taco soup, and you've got a great budget-friendly meal to fill your stomach! Or, get creative and use the last of your leftover ham to make a grilled ham and cheese. Mmmm! For the best local grilled cheese, head over to Coney Island Cafe.
April 19: Garlic Day
Garlic is an ingredient that can be used anywhere, in any manner! Delicious, fragrant and versatile, why not celebrate Garlic Day. Pick up locally grown garlic at the next Pine Belt Farmers and Artisans Market downtown at Town Square Park on April 15. Held every Thursday afternoon, this is a great source for locally grown produce and products.
April 30: National Shrimp Scampi Day
Don't head to Red Lobster, instead head straight to this site and find a delicious recipe for Shrimp Scampi that should be up soon. You'll never go back after you make this simple and delicious recipe. For those avoiding shellfish, substitute cubed chicken and you're good to go!
This month, enjoy the celebration and be sure to commemorate your favorite food day of the month. For more days, click here.
Enjoy!
