Eggnog is a seasonal item that deserves to be a year-round indulgence. The creaminess and spiciness of this ever-popular drink is enticing to many. Sometimes, it has a liquor content while some brands leave out the cognac or rum. Either way, it tastes great. So, December 24 is set aside just to celebrate eggnog. It is known as National Eggnog Day.

Of course throughout the winter holiday season, eggnog is availble in stores. But, if you have a craving for eggnog at any other time of the year, fret not. You can make eggnog easily at home. All you need is milk, eggs and spices. Oh, a blender will help. You will have a delicious treat in minutes.

Here's a simple recipe for eggnog:

Easy Eggnog

  • 2 eggs, beaten well
  • 3 tbs sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg, ground
  • 2 1/3 cups milk

Blend all ingredients and serve chilled.

But if you want to buy your eggnog, you can find it at many Chicagoland stores, including grocery stores, convenience stores and specialty stores like Trader Joe's or World Market.
