May 5th 2011 marks the 60th National Day of Prayer and San Diego County will be abuzz with people praying together.
Young believers and old alike will meet in churches, homes or some other location to pray for America—or some may choose to pray alone in one of the many churches that have opened their doors for this opportunity. Others still will take a time at work or at home, mindful that the united prayers of God’s people are powerful.
The overall focus is to pray for the future of America. A myriad of concerns will be brought to the Throne of God—including, no doubt, the terrible devastation caused by unprecedented tornadoes in the south and the country’s safety.
May is also Foster Care Awareness Month. Many will pray for the half a million foster children in America still needing homes (many of whom end up homeless if they’re not connected with a family by the time they’re eighteen).
The Day of Prayer is a time to pray. It is a time to come together with likeminded people and pray.
“…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
For those needing to rekindle their prayer lives, or just start from scratch, here’s a book that will help you do just that: The Prayer Dare – Take the Challenge that will Transform your Relationship with God– by Ron Kincaid.
