New York City is going a step further to promote dance awareness with its upcoming 10 day festival to take place from Friday, June 17th through Sunday, June 26th. This event, National Dance Week-NYC (http://ndw-nyc.org/), follows the National Dance Week for America (http://www.nationaldanceweek.org/) that occurs annually April 22nd- May 1st.
A fantastic opportunity to engage New Yorkers in the diverse dance world that their city has cultivated, there will be over 100 FREE (dance and fitness) classes, 30 participating NYC dance studios, and 9 performing groups - Tap City Youth Ensemble (American Tap Dance Foundation), Aveia, Ballet Noir, Billy Elliot the Musical, COBU, Creative Outlet Dance Theatre of Brooklyn, Flamenco con Magdalena, The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory, as well as Marie-Christine Giordano Dance.
The NYC Festival encourages people of all ages and levels of dance experience to get involved, offering events and classes in various genres of dance. The activities include everything from performances to the finishing touch of the festival - the NYC Flash Mob which will be held on June 15th in Union Square and is sure to be an incredible experience for those participating as well as people passing by.
Dancer's and non-dancer's alike should take advantage of the unique opportunities and community this festival creates. What a great time to support the wonderful art of dance - don't miss out!
