While tracking down who, where and when actually invented these drinks we have come to love over the history of time, the story of the daiquiri is an interesting one. The most popular story known of how the daiquiri came about is almost like every success story, it was created by accident.

Legend has it the daiquiri was invented in the early 20th century in a bar in Santiago, Cuba, by an American mining engineer named Jennings Cox. When Cox received a visit from a colleague, the only ingredients he had in his storeroom to mix up a drink were rum, lemons, and sugar - thus a legendary drink, was born. While the recipe for a classic daiquiri is a simple one, it has stood the test of time as one of the most popular frozen drinks still today.

The daiquiri started to become popular here in the United States in the early 1940's and was reported to be on the favorite drinks of former President John F. Kennedy and author Ernest Hemingway.

Today, the daiquiri comes in many different flavors with the most popular being strawberry. Other popular varieties include banana, peach, pineapple just to name a few. No matter what your favorite flavor is, you have the perfect excuse to drink one tomorrow and celebrate National Daiquiri Day!
