Today is National Cat Day! According to a huffingtonpost report on Oct. 29, today is dedicated to our furry feline friends. We all know every dog has its day, so it is time to acknowledge the dog’s number one nemesis (and friend) that cat.
National Cat Day started back in 2005 and is growing every year.
National Cat Day was founded by Colleen Paige, an animal welfare advocate to help the public to recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued each year. Paige also wants to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cat(s) in their life for the unconditional love and companionship they bring to us and our families every day.
According to the official National Cat Day website, approximately 4 million cats entering shelters every year with almost half of them (1-2 million) being euthanized. That is a staggering number.
