National bestselling Maryland author Jeanine Cummins book tour coming

According to Booklist, The Crooked Branch is “wonderfully written, with strong, compelling characters, it is a deeply satisfying combination of sweeping historical saga and modern family drama, a gentle reminder of the ever-reaching influence of family, both near and far.”

What: Jeanine Cummins, the two-time national bestselling author originally from Maryland, will be reading from her new novel The Crooked Branch which goes on-sale March 5, 2013 in Rockville, MD and Baltimore, MD later in March.

The Crooked Branch is a new work of fiction that intertwines two spellbinding stories of mothers separated by generations. As the story goes according to Jeanine; in anticipation of her first child, Majella quits her job and moves back to her childhood home in Queens. But the birth is nothing like she expected, and the trauma leaves her alone with a newborn and no maternal instincts. While adjusting to her new life, Majella discovers the journal of her great-grandmother, Ginny Doyle. Curious to see how the women before her confronted motherhood, she turns to the journal for solace but discovers a confession of murder. What happened to the family during those hard years, and why does Ginny call herself a killer? Is Majella genetically fated to be a bad mother?
