Genealogists can schedule free personal appointments with the National Archives Southwest Region in Fort Worth to learn about Enumeration Districts (ED) in the upcoming 1940 US Census. The census will not be indexed when it is released April 2, so genealogists must know the ED of their relative.
“Knowing about EDs will actually help you find your relatives sooner when the census is released,” Meg Hacker, director of the Regional Archives, said. “We are trying to get as many folks educated on enumeration districts as possible before the grand release of the 1940 Census on April 2, at 8:00 a.m. CDT.”
Hacker said there are three easy steps to get ready for the census.
- Find the physical address of you or your relative as of April 1, 1940.
- Email ftworth.education@nara.gov to reserve a personal “1 on 1” session.
- Find relatives April 2 when the 1940 US Census is released.
Hacker encourages everyone to sign up for a session.
“Not only are our sessions free, but they are also available throughout the week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., from now until the end of March. They are geared for those in need of a refresher course as well as beginners,” she said.
The NARA’s address is 2600 West 7th Street, Suite 162. Anyone with questions should call 817-831-5620 or email ftworth.education@nara.gov. http://www.archives.gov/southwest/
