Although November is National Adoption Month, the timing is always right to spread word of this outstanding option for families.
Such was the case with Oak Park, Ill.-based Adoption-Link in August, when the organization was in full swing with a fundraising campaign. A neighbor of Inside Edge PR for the past three years, Adoption-Link didn’t ask, but I gladly adopted the organization’s cause by freely offering communications support about their efforts to raise money.
It’s a testimony to the selfless leadership of founder Margaret Fleming and her colleagues that local media readily picked up the story, with articles in Oak Park Patch, a front-page story in the Wednesday Journal of Oak Park and River Forest, and the Oak Leaves, part of the Pioneer Press chain within the Sun-Times Media Group.
Most of us know families who have opened their homes and hearts to adopt. For me, one couple that especially stands out are Bob and Shelly Kummer. They have a 15-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter, both of whom they adopted at infancy.
Working within World Wide DreamBuilders (WWDB), a business training-and-support organization, for 20 years the Kummers have long been extremely successful Amway Independent Business Owners (IBOs). As a result, they have had a regular forum through which they have their shared their adoption journey to other IBOs.
On a broader level regarding adoption, you can tap into a wealth of resources, as well as read more stories and see videos of other adoptive families’ experiences, at a U.S. Department of Health & Human Services website.
