He's got the music in him
The Salt Lake Pops Studio Orchestra has been in existence for slightly over one year. However, as a YouTube orchestra it has only been in existence for 6 months. Conductor and composer Nathaniel Drew started writing orchestral music when he was 15 years old. He loves soundtrack music, including James Horner, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. He has written for several television shows and documentaries for local PBS stations as well as a plethora of commercials; he interned for Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard as well.
Writing for Film
Nathaniel is currently writing for a big fantasy film. As he put it, “I love fantasy music because it's huge orchestral stuff that you dream about writing as a kid!” The orchestra has not done much performing this year because the focus has been on procuring a fan base, though they will most likely say yes to a charity. The plan is to perform more often at a permanent location, but they are still working out the details in regard to that.
The orchestra is made up of several talented musicians, including Sae Sae Norris the Vice President of Utah Women in Film. And they have performed their musical renditions with a variety of other talented performers such as Alex Boye' and Lindsey Sterling.
Purpose
The purpose of the orchestra is to change the culture of and revitalize the modern orchestra. Nathaniel loves Bach and Beethoven as much as the next classical music orchestra lover, but modern popular music orchestras are essential because without them the classical orchestra would fade into obscurity.
To this end the orchestra gives all of their sheet music away for free to community and High School orchestras. Once you listen to this very talented group you will want to listen to them many times over.
