Natalie Pack of Los Angeles/Newport Beach was crowned Miss California USA 2012 Sunday night at ceremonies at Indian Wells.
Pack topped almost 300 contestants for the crown. Coming in first among so many contestants makes her almost certain to be considered a front-runner for Miss USA 2012.
She entered the pageant as Miss Hoag Hospital, a medical care center in Newport Beach.
The Miss USA pageant will be held this summer. Negotiations are reportedly under way to move the pageant from Las Vegas to Miami Beach, but there has been no formal announcement from pageant officials.
Wherever it is held, the final night of competition and crowning will be broadcast live on the NBC television network.
The winner of the Miss USA pageant will represent the United States at the Miss Universe 2012 pageant.
The Miss USA pageant is a division of the Miss Universe Organization, co-owned by Donald Trump and NBC Universal.
The Miss Universe Organization also owns the Miss Teen USA pageant.
