Singer-song writer Natalie Merchant will be performing in Boston at The Shubert Theater on Monday, July 6th, 2014. Throughout the night, entitled "An Evening with Natalie Merchant," the singer will be performing from her newly released album, the first with new material in thirteen years, Natalie Merchant.
Merchant attributes the delay to her desire to search for her voice, a process she says takes a considerable amount of time. The singer's last album, Leave Your Sleep, was her interpretation of poems. If she had to choose a theme for the album, Merchant would choose "transformation and truth, telling the truth."
"Now that I look back at the album and am starting to talk about it, I can see that it's divided into two different approaches," says Merchant. "One is an inward looking, personal interior voice and the other side is looking at the world, news of the day, events beyond our control. There's an interplay between the two because we can't separate ourselves from ourselves and we can't separate ourselves form the world, as much as we may like to."
Natalie Merchant is an American singer-songwriter and musician. She joined the alternative rock band 10,000 Maniacs in 1981 and left it to begin her solo career in 1993.
