Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Nassau County and New York State will again host a pre-registration assistance program this Saturday at four Nassau County Disaster Recovery Centers for Superstorm Sandy victims. The implementation of the three New York State programs, administered by Nassau County, has been moving forward with the understanding that funds, although approved by Congress, are still not yet available.
“Working with Governor Cuomo and his staff, we are pleased to offer pre-registration assistance to prepare residents to apply for vital recovery programs,” said County Executive Mangano. “I encourage all of the residents and business owners eligible for Sandy recovery programs to visit the website and to stop by one of the Disaster Recovery Centers this Saturday to complete the pre-application process.”
Several hundred families are still displaced, either unable to return to their homes permanently, or temporarily until insurance and rebuilding matters are settled. The chaos and stress on parents and children, many of whom are now in different school districts away from friends and neighbors, has been overwhelming. In addition the financial ramifications have pushed some Sandy victim families to the edge, trying to cope with uncovered repairs, demolition, clean outs, and in some cases, hotels and car rentals or new car purchases.
All residents are encouraged to visit www.NYSANDYHELP.NY.gov to begin the pre-application process. New York State and Nassau County are also manning Disaster Recovery Centers to assist applicants from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16th at the following locations:
Long Beach Recreation Center and Ice arena, 700 Magnolia Blvd, Long Beach
Sacred Heart Parish (Island Park Railroad Station), 127 Long Beach Road, Island Park
Cedar Creek Park, Merrick Road, Seaford
Freeport Recreation Center, 130 East Merrick Road, Freeport
