Cops are on the prowl for a burger bandit after the masked man ordered food at a Burger King location in Oceanside on Sunday and then swiped a handful of cash when he turned his sights on the register, Nassau County police said.

The bizarre and brazen Jan. 5 robbery started when the alleged crook ordered a hamburger at the fast food restaurant on Long Beach Road in Oceanside just before 5 p.m., police said. He paid for the food and quickly left.

Just five minutes later, authorities said, he returned to the Burger King with a mask covering his face and again ordered a hamburger.

When the cash register popped open, the crook allegedly walked around the counter and swiped an undisclosed amount of cash from the drawer.

Cops said he walked out of the store and jumped into a black Honda with tape covering his license plates.

There were four employees in the restaurant at the time. No one was injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
