A tech-savvy victim is being credited with finding the armed thugs who allegedly robbed him of his iPhone after tracking the phone and leading Nassau County police officers to one of the suspects, authorities said March 4.

Investigators said the 18-year-old victim was walking in Uniondale earlier this month when three men pulled up in an Audi and approached the victim. The men – one of whom was armed with a gun – approached the victim and demanded his property, cops said. The suspects allegedly snatched the man’s iPhone and fled the scene.

Police said the victim used a “phone finder app” to track the stolen device and alerted cops to its location. Cops responded to the location – the V Barber Shop on Nassau Road in Uniondale – and “were informed by a witness that he had purchased the phone from one of the subjects,” a news release said.

Detectives arrested Khalil Young, 18, of Baldwin, on first-degree and second-degree robbery charges. Police said Tuesday that the other men suspected in the armed robbery have not yet been apprehended.

Young was awaiting arraignment Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
