The NASL has revealed its Spring Season schedule for 2014 and unsurprisingly have gone with a nine match season, it was announced on Thursday.
With Virginia Cavalry withdrawing from the 2014 NASL season it left the league in a lurch but the decision was made to continue with the 2014 structure in tact just without a team.
The result of that decision is that the host of the Soccerbowl will be decided over just nine matches, with the best team after the nine matches getting the right to host the title deciding match.
The Scorpions have got some help in that regard as they got the better of the balance with five home games and four road games giving them a slight edge.
Also of benefit to the Scorpions is that they'll play the perceived weaker teams in the league on the road, with newcomers Ottawa Fury and Indy Eleven hosting the Scorpions in May while also playing Atlanta, who will likely not be as strong as their 2013 Spring season, on the road.
There is one glaring exception to that with the Scorpions forced to face a road trip against the champions and favourites New York Cosmos at Hofstra University on April 26th.
It will be a blockbuster opening to the season for the Scorpions as they host fierce rivals Minnesota United FC allowing Pablo Campos a chance to renew his love/hate relationship with the San Antonio public.
After two road matches against the Soccerbowl competitors the Scorpions will return to Toyota Field for three straight home matches against Tampa Bay, Carolina and Edmonton.
After two matches on the road against the new comers the Scorpions will conclude the first half of the 2014 season at home as they host Fort Lauderdale.
