NASL kicks off Fall Season this weekend


This weekend, the North American Soccer League (NASL) kicks off its Fall Season after the mid-season break for World Cup. Minnesota United FC won the NASL Spring Season Championship and the first of four berths in the NASL Championship Final in November and hosting rights for a semi-final match on November 8. New York missed capturing the Spring Title by a single point, while San Antonio finished third.

Over the break, the Carolina Railhawks and Atlanta Silverbacks reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup, but were eliminated by FC Dallas and the Chicago Fire, respectively.

The RailHawks, who are looking to extend an 18-game regular season home unbeaten streak, will host Indy Eleven to WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday. That game has been selected as NASL's Match of the Week and will be broadcast live on ESPN3 on July 12, at 7:30 pm ET.

2013 NASL Soccer Bowl winners New York Cosmos will host San Antonio Scorpions at Hofstra University's James M. Shuart Stadium, Saturday at 7 pm ET. Tampa Bay Rowdies host Atlanta Silverbacks at Al Lang Stadium also on Saturday at 7:30 pm ET.

NASL Spring Champion Minnesota United travel to Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Lockhart Stadium at 7:30 pm ET. Minnesota has a four-game unbeaten streak and lost only once in its last 11 regular season matches. The 2014 Fall Season Week 1 concludes on Sunday, July 13, with a Canadian match-up when Ottawa Fury FC visits FC Edmonton at Commonwealth Stadium.
