“Nashville” promised us an amazing winter finale and that’s what we got. Things came to a head for many of the characters when “Tomorrow Never Comes” aired Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 9 p.m. Be sure to check out the pictures from the finale, too.
The first annual Music City Music Festival is the backdrop for much of the goings on. Juliette is the headliner in more ways than one. The day before the show, the news that Juliette is the cause for the marital breakup of the Wentworths is all over the press and threatens to ruin the festival. Juliette orders Glen to find out who leaked the story though she suspects it was Layla. When she confronts Layla, she gets a verbal slap down and no answers.
Rayna learns through Luke Wheeler That Jeff Fordham plans to release her album right after their duet single comes out. Furious, Rayna visit Jeff at home and finds him in the pool with a lady. He steps out, in the buff, to have a conversation with her and explains he wants $20 million from her or he will release the album. Rayna consults with Tandy who offers to buy into Rayna’s label, Highway 65, for $3 million but they are still short. Rayna contemplates selling her stocks and her home.
Deacon shows up for the festival check-in and finds he’s been scratched from the program. Gunnar is there too and learns his spot is at 11:00 a.m. when no one will be there and it’s in front of the port-a-potties. The two musicians throw in together and decide to stage a show out the festival gates.
Zoey spends the episode chasing Scarlett around trying to apologize for the way Scarlett found about Zoe and Gunnar’s relationship. Scarlett stonewalls her and refuses to speak to her or even look at her.
Will sleeps with Layla though he can’t get Brent off his mind. Brent tells Will he knows the guys Will beat up in Houston were the same ones who hassled Brent and his date. Will learns Brent is no longer seeing the guy. They end up in bed together but when Brent has to leave, Will look s pretty depressed.
Layla is caught off guard when Jeff Fordham threatens to destroy her career if he finds out she is behind the leaked story about Juliette and Charlie. Seems everyone suspects her but no one can prove it…yet.
Teddy gets word of Deacon’s plans and shows up with the police as Deacon is setting up. He tells Deacon they are shutting him down. Deacon says he has permission from the private owner of the property he is on to be there. Teddy realizes he can’t do anything and threatens Deacon with arrest if anything goes wrong or anyone is hurt. Score one for Deacon.
During the festival, Juliette takes the stage and as she starts her set, a banner saying “Home Wrecker” is hoisted just feet from the stage. She is flustered and turns to walk off stage. Avery, who is there as her guitarist, catches her eye and she stops. He starts to sing the next verse, never missing a beat. He stares into her eyes and she sings with him. He gets her through the song and the show goes on while security takes down the banner. Afterward, she thanks Avery for his help. He tells her to face the press but on her own terms. She does and says she will not talk about her private life. All she has to say on the subject is “no comment.”
Rayna tells Luke that she wants to buy her way out of Edgehill. He calls the move gutsy and says he wouldn’t do it. Jeff turns up and hands her a packet containing some market research that shows why he is doing what he’s doing. She puts the label woes behind her to watch Deacon perform with the girls. After the show, she tells Luke she has come up with the money and will be leaving Edgehill. His response is one that seems to imply that since she is leaving, they might not be a couple anymore. She tells Deacon he did a great job as a frontman and we wonder if he will be her next star at Highway 65. She tells Jeff she is buying him out and he has nothing to say.
After Deacon’s performance, he is approached about a solo career. Avery and Scarlett head home and hop in bed. Zoey tells Scarlett she is wounded by Scarlett’s behavior toward her but she isn’t going to give Gunnar up over it. Charlie Wentworth tells Juliette that he is still divorcing Olivia because staying with her makes him miserable.
Juliette realizes she loves Avery. He has been there for and been a caring friend, something she hasn’t seen much of. She goes to his house unannounced to tell him but stops short when she sees Scarlett there. She instead thanks him for what he did at the concert.
Will, in a confused state after sleeping with Brent, stands crying next to some train tracks. As the train approaches, he steps directly in front of it.
Meanwhile, at the festival, Rayna sees Peggy and Teddy s they are getting ready to leave. They exchange pleasantries and as the couple turns to go, Rayna asks Teddy for a minute which she uses to explain her plans about selling her stocks and the house. When Teddy turns to walk back to his car, a man approaches and he has a gun. A brief jostling ensues during which the gun goes off and the man flees. Teddy is shaken and looks to Rayna, who is fine. When he turns, Peggy is on the ground and she isn’t moving.
