In an interview with International Business Times, Nicole Massabrook Sam Palladio said he thinks Scarlett and Gunnar might be getting cozier in the upcoming season.

“The fans love the two characters together and I’m sure that they will in one way or another come back together at least as musical partners,” Palladio told Metro.

Last season, Scarlett could barely sing with Gunnar and lost a chance to have Kelly Clarkson record one of their songs, but by the end of Season 2, when they sang “It Ain’t Yours To Throw Away” it seemed like they were close to being friends. The song was written by Gunnar to show Scarlett how he still felt about her.

“We start working on series three this week -- they haven’t released any scripts yet so I’m really interested to see where we pick up after that scene,” Palladio said.

“I think the two characters have had a deep connection that music is the catalyst of,” he explained. “So no matter what happens in their personal lives, when they come together and sing, that spark gets ignited again.” He thinks they will write songs together too.

Palladio and Clare Bowen's duet from Season 1, “I Will Fall,” is the the bestselling original song from “Nashville". They performed a cover of Motley Crue’s “Without You” for “Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute To Motley Crue,” which will come out on Aug. 19. Nashville is planning a live premiere in September, but “Nashville” returns Sept. 24, and audiences can expect the musical performances to be a bit different. The ABC hit will include live performances from the show’s fabulous singers.

“Nashville” returns to ABC on Sept. 24 at 10 p.m.
