One of the most loved characters on “Nashville” is Gunnar (Sam Palladio). He is talented, sweet and troubled – just the way we like our heroes. When Season 3 of the country music series returns in September, Gunnar is going to have his hands full. His relationship with Scarlett (Claire Bowen) is on the mend just as his old high school sweetheart, Kiley, turns up toting a 10-year-old son she had long ago according to Fox News on Aug. 12. Will he reunite with either of his past loves?
Kiley will be played Alexa Vega of “Spy Kid” fame. She’s now a single mom who comes to Nashville seeking stability for her and her son. She is also Gunnar’s first love and his high school sweetheart. While there is no confirmation that Gunnar is the father of her son, the implication is there. What will her appearance mean for Gunnar? If he is the boy’s father, did he know about him already? If he isn’t the dad, will Kiley rekindle their old flame and will he step up to the plate?
In a report on International Business Times in July, Palladio said that he expected Gunnar and Scarlett would be getting back together in one way or another. They spent most of Season 2 apart as Scarlett could barely stand to be in the same room with him. “The fans love the two characters together and I’m sure that they will in one way or another come back together at least as musical partners,” Palladio said.
As the season ran its course, however, the two seemed more comfortable with one another. Following Scarlett’s meltdown and announced intentions to leave Nashville, Gunnar wrote a song and sang it for her, “It Ain’t Yours To Throw Away.” His intention was to make her see that she had a gift and no right to run away and hide because life gets hard. And that he still cared about what happened to her.
How well his gesture worked remains to be seen. “We start working on series three this week -- they haven’t released any scripts yet so I’m really interested to see where we pick up after that scene,” Palladio said.
He believes the chemistry between the two will bring them back together, even if t is just as musical partners. “I think the two characters have had a deep connection that music is the catalyst of,” he explained. “So no matter what happens in their personal lives, when they come together and sing, that spark gets ignited again.”
What do you think? Should Gunnar and Scarlett get back together? Do you want to see where things go with his old flame? Are you a fan of Gunnar and Zoe? Let us know who you’re rooting for in the comments.
