Season 3 of “Nashville” is in production and the premiere episode will have a big surprise for viewers – live musical performances! According to Christian Today on July 15, show creator Callie Khouri has created a premiere episode that will feature live performances from Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere interspersed with the usual prerecorded scenes. The live scenes will be broadcast from the show’s set and the prerecorded scenes for the premiere will begin filming July 17.
Last year, the show did a two-episode special that gave the show’s artists a place and means to showcase their musical talents. It included performances by the stars and the show’s songwriters. Khouri credits the success of the series with giving her the courage to tackle live performances in the show.
Though the show has a growing number of fans, there are still many people who don’t believe the stars they see on “Nashville” are really the ones doing the singing. Khouri thinks the live performances will put the naysayers to rest once and for all. "We want people to know what it's really like,” she says. “The live music here is such a huge presence in our show that we thought maybe we could find a way to share with the world what that feels like for real."
Many of the cast have performed in a variety of venues and done “Nashville” concerts. For those who haven’t had the opportunity to hear them perform live, this will be their chance. Khouri is eager to show off just how good her cast really is.
Is Khouri afraid of taking on the logistics of a live performance? "It's a huge thing to take on but I think we're up to it,” she said. “Barring some technical, possibly weather-related problem, I think it's a fun thing to try and do. We're always looking for new ways to challenge ourselves and just thought this would be really great," she said.
ABC announced the premiere date for the big show. "Nashville" season 3 will return to ABC with season 3 on September 24. We’ll keep you updated as news becomes available.
