As always, the competition on ‘American Idol’ has been undeniably intense. Some hopefuls have continued to take another step toward the crown each week, while the journey has disappointingly ended for others. The select talents advancing in the cut-throat competition know how lucky they are, and realize that this is crunch time, as this week will narrow the field down to the final 10.
Among the top 20 contestants competing for a top 10 spot this week is Nashville’s own Paul Jolley. Ever since his Baton Rouge audition in which he perfected Rascal Flatt’s ‘I Won’t Let Go,’ the 23-year-old has wowed the judging panel. Packed with strong vocals, good looks, an ability to connect with his audience, and of course a “jolly” personality that is winning over the hearts of viewers, Jolley stands a real shot at being the last man standing this season.
In his latest ‘American Idol’ interview following his performance of Urban’s “Tonight I Wanna Cry,” Paul said that he felt amazing about the fact that he was moving forward. Though Jolley’s powerhouse vocals are especially showcased in emotion-filled ballads, he believes this is the week to let loose a bit.
Paul went on to say, “This next performance I am going to try to find something more upbeat, so that I can have fun with it, and just try to relax, and not have to focus on emotion as much as having a good time with the audience, because that is what it is about now. The fans get to vote now, so I’m going to enjoy that.”
