ABC’s country music nighttime soap opera “Nashville” has won critical and fan acclaim in large part for its musical numbers. Most of the work on the show is original but a promotional ad aired during the Oscars telecast on Sunday, Feb. 24 hinting at a cover of a classic. Here comes the spoiler. According to Broadway World on Feb. 25, the song is the iconic theme song for the 1980 movie musical of the same name, “Fame.”
Hayden Panettiere outshines any of her earlier performances with her rendition of the anthem. In the music video which accompanies this article, we see Hayden singing soulfully while accompanied only by the strumming of a guitar off camera. The video is interspersed with scenes from the current and past episodes of the show.
Hayden’s vice shows remarkable growth and depth in this rendition of the Irene Cara classic. Her pain and suffering set against her determination to succeed are really what the song was all about in the first place. Take a peek and see if you don’t agree.
Catch “Nashville” on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
