A benefit show and auction to aid hospitialized country singer Mel McDaniel has been set for Thursday, Aug. 13, at The Nashville Palace, 2611 McGavock Pike.
The Grand Ole Opry member was hospitalized in a Nashville-area hospital on July 6 and doctors put him in a medically induced coma. At this writing, remains "extremely ill," according to available reports, with "a long, difficulty road facing him," benefit organizers said.
A who's-who list of McDaniels friends in the music industry already have signed on to appear at the 6-10 p.m. fundraiser, including Buddy Jewell, Jimmy C. Newman, Jan Howard, Jean Shepard, T. Graham Brown, Gene Watson, David Ball, Jim Ed Brown, Little Jimmy Dickens, Rick Blaylock and the Oklahoma Wind band, among others, and numerous others are expected.
In addition to a list of performers, the Aug. 13 event will include a silent auction that's set to feature items such as autographed guitars, photos,CDs and more country-music memorabilia.
Proceeds from the Thursday-evening event will go to aid McDaniel, a native of Checotah, Okla., the same hometown as country-starlet Carrie Underwood. Most country fans likely best know McDaniel's voice, thanks to classic hits such as "Baby’s Got Her Blue Jeans On,” “Stand Up!” and “Louisiana Saturday Night.”

Thank you for the write up on Mel and the Benefit, Lisa. I'd like to make a request though. All inquiries should go to catherinerust@bellsouth.net or sunni@simbaproducts.com. The Nashville Palace contacts you mentioned are not doing the planning and organizing of the Benefit. They have been so kind to donate the building though. We are trying to make this event as easy on them as possible. By contacting either Sunni or myself, we can make sure that the correct info is given out or if someone wants to sign up to entertain we can facilitate that as well. If there is anything I can do to assist you with any stories about this event please feel free to contact me. I hope you will be able to make it out on August 13th.
Cathy
