Yesterday, it was reported the Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement in Nashville, Tennessee last weekend completed an operation that brought in 33 arrest. At least twice a week, officers and supervisors representing each of seven precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville. Last weeks operation took place on Friday and Saturday.

Friday they targeted Murfreesboro Pike, Hillside Avenue, Mt. View Road, Perkins Street, Charles E. Davis Boulevard, and Charlotte Pike. The enforcement consisted of four SID detectives, four supervisors, 27 patrol officers and three canine officers. Saturday the target sights were 26th Avenue North, Jefferson Street, 14th Avenue North at Buchanan Street, Archwood Place, Gallatin Pike, and Dickerson Pike and consisted of three SID detectives, five supervisors and 18 patrol officers.

The 33 arrest involved 27 misdemeanors, two felonies and eight warrants served, they also seized 6.4 grams of marijuana, 2.6 grams of cocaine and 500 pills. So far this year, Tennessee Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,302 arrests on 84 felony charges and 1,212 misdemeanor charges, 16 gun seizures, the service of 402 outstanding warrants, 200 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 7,221 vehicle stops in areas with a gang presence.

Also last week the Nashville precinct-based undercover detectives arrested and charged 92 persons, in various Nashville neighborhoods, with mostly drug and prostitution offenses. In their investigations they seized a total of approximately 149 grams of marijuana,136 grams of synthetic marijuana, over 11 grams of cocaine, 2.1 grams of heroin, 112 pills, one gun, three vehicles and $108,392 in cash.

Operation Safer Streets is a long-term project that puts officers in neighborhoods with higher the average incidents of gang activities, in order to fight illegal crimes and help stop the spread of gangs.
