‘Nashville’ episode 11 'You Win Again' Rayna and Deacon have it out

Episode 11 of “Nashville” brought to light the history between Rayna and Deacon and reveals the hurt they’ve caused one another. “You Win Again” aired Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 9 p.m.

Juliette and Rayna are on board Juliette’s plane heading back to Nashville when they see a magazine featuring Deacon that implies he was fired from the Rebel Kings and that he fell off the wagon. Flash to Deacon at home yelling at someone from the publication about the allegations. He explains (loudly) that Cy was mauling his niece and he’d made no comment when the magazine first called because he protecting her privacy. He also said he had been sober for 12 years.

Jolene’s Court Appearance

Back in Nashville, Juliette is waiting with Jolene and her lawyer for the court appearance when Deacon arrives. He feels the magazine article puts him in a bad light and that he is no longer a good character witness to speak on Jolene’s behalf. He tells Juliette to do it. She balks but makes a cursory attempt at it. The judge doesn’t go for it and says Jolene must finish rehab and then appear before the court again. Deacon takes Juliette to task for not being more supportive. He then invites Jolene to be his date at the Number 1 record party that evening against Juliette’s better judgment.

Rayna and Deacon’s Big Fight

Rayna stops by Deacon’s house to check on him after learning about the magazine article. He is putting up a for sale sign in the front yard. She asks if he’s okay and he snipes at her, prompting her to ask why he is so mad at her. He’s angry because she broke up with him, fired him and basically told him to get a life without her. She defends herself saying she just wanted him to be happy and he slams back with, “Like you are with Teddy?”

He reminds her that she dumped him in rehab and turned around and married Teddy. She didn’t wait for him. She counters that she didn’t know his fifth trip to rehab would stick. He accuses her of losing faith in him and she denies but says it is these kinds of conversations that make it impossible for her to keep doing this.

Deacon says, “Then don’t do it,” turns on his heels and leaves her standing at the curb.

The Record Party and Aftermath

Deacon doesn’t show up for the party but Jolene does which sets Juliette on edge. She tries calling deacon but he won’t pick up the phone. He toys with the idea of calling his sponsor but decides against it. After the party, Juliette goes to Deacon’s house and discovers he has ransacked the place and smashed his guitar. “It was out of tune,” he explains drolly.

He is a hot mess and Juliette says she recognizes a dry drunk when she sees one. She insists he go out on tour with her. He got sober for the music and that’s what he needs to do. She tells him there is an AA group among her crew and they have meetings twice a week. He tells her that he didn’t get sober for the music. He didn’t even get sober for himself. He got sober for Rayna, hoping for something that was never going to happen. Juliette tells him that Rayna is the opposite of what he needs.

The Tour

As episode 11 of “Nashville” winds to a close, Juliette and Rayna have boarded Juliette’s plane to head back out on tour. Juliette tells the pilot to wait because there’s one more person coming. Deacon comes tearing through the airport and climbs aboard. He walks past Rayna and takes a seat near Juliette. Rayna is stunned and asks her manager if he hired Deacon without talking to her, which he denies. Deacon says “I’m not here for you.” Juliette finishes the thought, “He’s going on tour with me.”

It has been a rough couple of episodes for Deacon and now the inevitable has happened. He is on tour with both of the ladies who are important to him. Watch the claws really come out when “Nashville” returns on Feb. 6
