Are you headed to South by Southwest in Austin, TX this year? Well don't forget to check out some of your hometown's very own artists or bands! Or, if you're not from Nashville, then just don't forget to keep your eye out for the talent coming from Nashville!
Whether you're into rock, pop, or country -- you're sure to find something you'll like. These artists are brought to us by Sonicbids, where bands are connected with music promoters. You should definitely check them out if you're looking for help to get some gigs.
One artist that will be playing at SXSW is Jen Foster, a pop-rock singer/songwriter. She has a powerful voice and the instruments in her songs are definitely pop. She regularly sells out shows all over the country and always makes her audience laugh.
Next up is country singer/songwriter Austin Cunningham. Austin has had his songs recorded by various artists such as Hank Williams Jr., Martina McBride, Dolly Parton, and many more. He even has songs featured on the soundtrack Where the Heart is. Austin is originally from Texas, but moved to Nashville in hopes of starting his music career. He was pretty successful, if you ask me.
The next artists that are due to be playing are a folk singing/songwriting duo called Sam & Ruby. These two were just recently signed with Ryko, a Warner Music Group, and their next album is due soon. They've also had a song featured in The Secret Life of Bee's, which was in theaters in October 2008. They both have beautiful voices and I really hope you check them out for yourself -- they sound like a match made in heaven.
And lastly, there is The Young Republic who sing/write alternative-country. This group sounds like it's straight out of the 60's with their music. However, they still have a bit of country in some of their instrumental sounds. They sound like a definite image for teenagers in Nashville who dig country and alternative music.
I strongly suggest you check all of these artists out if you plan on being in Austin, TX in March. The SXSW music festival will be from March 18-22 at the Austin Convention Center. You'll definitely be treating your ear to some nice sounds.
