NASCAR trucks undergo makeover

NASCAR officially unveiled newly-designed bodies on Wednesday for the Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota trucks teams will field in Camping World Truck Series competition in 2014. The unveiling was held at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, site of the season opening race on Feb. 21.

"Each manufacturer has designed distinctly different trucks that they can use to promote their showroom models through their involvement with NASCAR Racing," NASCAR Vice President of Competition and Racing Development Robin Pemberton said. "We have worked closely with all three manufacturers for the past several years, and we're excited to unveil a new truck body that will make one of NASCAR's most exciting series even better."

The Truck Series is the last of NASCAR's three national series to get makeovers for its racing machines, following the Sprint Cup Series in 2013 and the Nationwide Series in 2010. NASCAR's goal in the development of the new-look truck was to maintain close competition while making the trucks look more like their showroom counterparts.

"The truck has a new look that fans can relate to with their own truck at home," Camping World Truck Series Managing Director Chad Little said. "The competitors have been happy with the new trucks in testing in January, and we expect to continue to have some of the best racing in NASCAR for our fans at Daytona."

The NextEra Energy Resources 250 season-opening race for the Truck Series is scheduled to take the green flag shortly after 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday. The race will be shown live on FOX Sports 1.
