On Tuesday, October, 18, 2011, Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. will host a NASCAR and Goodyear tire test that is open to the public. Limited access to the grand stand seating is free. Also, free parking is available from the main entrance to the speedway, off of the Cherry Avenue.

The first session begins at 9 a.m. and continues until noon. The second session begins at 1p.m., after a lunch break, and continues until 5p.m.

Drivers who are scheduled to participate include:

  • Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 Sprint Cup Ford for Roush-Fenway Racing;
  • David Reutimann, driver of the No. 00 Sprint Cup Toyota for Michael Waltrip Racing;
  • Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the No. 12 Nationwide Dodge; and
  • Landon Canssill, driver of the No. 51 Sprint Cup Chevrolet

The tire test is in preparation for the 2012 NASCAR race weekend in Fontana. The 2012 race at Auto Club Speedway will take place on March 25th. The 2012 schedule was recently announced by NASCAR, and Fontana retains its March date while several other races have changed. For example, the Daytona 500 will be a week later next year, and several tracks swap dates throughout the season.

With the 2009, ban on testing for the top series in NASCAR, tire testing is one of the few opportunities for drivers and teams to get seat time before race weekends begin.

The Tuesday Goodyear tire test comes just before a weekend of racing at Talladega, one of the biggest wild card races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase, which may define many of the Chasers final standing.
