For Brian Vickers and No. 83 team, a hole of 351 points is likely too deep to reverse. So does a Chase team look forward to next year or look back at a great regular season? After the California race at Auto Club Speedway Sunday, next season looks to be the main goal for Vickers and team.
Six races remaining and probably only six contenders have a chance, maybe four. Playoff points add and subtract fast. Every race is a new slate for teams, for Chase teams every race is hill that must be climbed. And the hill just gets steeper -- fast.
“The Chase has been brutal for us so far,” Vickers said. “The last two races have probably been our two worst of the season. I'm looking forward to getting to Charlotte where we usually run well. Hopefully we can catch a break there.”
When your playoff hopes dim but your team is still in the hunt – your team hunts. That’s what makes another good season possible.
