The Daytona 500 is just a week a way but all the attention is on the NASCAR driver’s wives.
Most recently, Jeff Gordon, who resides in downtown Charlotte, announced that he and his wife Ingrid are expanding their family. On Thursday, Gordon posted on is Web site, “Ingrid is 12 weeks pregnant and expecting our second child.” He added, “We’re very excited and can’t wait to expand our family to four.”
The baby is due in the early summer and will join 2 ½ year-old sister Ella Sophia. Jeff and Ingrid will be celebrating their fourth wedding anniversary in Nov.
Adding to the baby boom on the NASCAR scene is Gordon’s fellow Hendrick teammate Jimmie Johnson, who announced the soon-to-be addition to their family. The four-time champion and wife Chandra will be welcoming their first child in July.
The four-part series special on HBO, 24/7 Jimmie Johnson: The Road to Daytona, chronicles Johnson’s life on and off the track. The first-hand glimpse also highlights Johnson coping with Chandra’s pregnancy, especially her morning sickness,” said Johnson.
Earnhardt Ganassi driver Juan Pablo Montoya also revealed that he and his wife Connie are expecting their third child. Montoya broke the news via Twitter to his fans. He tweeted, “By the way the wife is pregnant with our third child.” He added that the family is “very happy about it!” The Montoya’s newest addition, who is also due in July, will be joining his other two children, Sebastian, 5, and Paulina, 3.
Two drivers, however, have babies due in the next month. Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Aflac Ford, and his wife Kate are expecting their first child, a girl, due three weeks after the Daytona 500.
Edward’s joked, with his wife due so close to the first race, they might just name her after the track. “We couldn’t have scheduled it any better,” said Edwards. “Perfect timing; we’ll call her Daytona!” Hopefully his wife doesn’t agree to that.
The Edwards’ celebrated their first wedding anniversary at the beginning of the year.
The last driver, in the so called “pregnancy pact,” is driver of the Richard Petty Motorsports No. 19, Elliott Sadler.
Sadler and his wife Amanda are expecting their first child, a boy, in early March. He also tweeted his good news by tweeting, “The Sadler name lives on. My dad gets his first grandson.”
