The Associated Press, in an October 4, 2013 story, finds that a number of federal employees support Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas even though he is credited or blamed for the government shut down that her furloughed so many of them. The difference is that many of them live in Houston, Cruz’s home, and work for NASA.
Houston residents tend to be more conservative than not and thus supportive of efforts to eliminate the Affordable Care Act also known as Obamacare. Federal employees who work at NASA tend to have a personal animus against President Obama, for cancelling the Constellation return to the moon program and for presiding over a decline in the space agency’s budget and fortunes. It would be only natural that NASA workers would rally around a politician who is opposing a signature government program championed by the man who is perceived of having destroyed hopes for space exploration beyond low Earth orbit.
