The first commercial cargo supply mission to the International Space Station to be launched from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility, Mission ORB-1, has been pushed back to launch no earlier than mid-January. A technical issue with a cooling system aboard the International Space Station has caused the change in launch schedule.
NASA will now proceed with a series of spacewalks to focus on repairing a faulty pump module that stopped working properly on December 11.
NASA Television aired a news briefing on Wednesday to preview the spacewalks.
Delmarva's Space Flight Center
The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Wallops Flight Facility, located near Chincoteague Island, Virginia, has been making news in recent months.
NASA CubeSats and an Air Force Satellite were launched from Wallops Island in November. The rocket's payload includes the Space Test Program Satellite-3 (STPSat-3), an Air Force technology-demonstration mission and thirteen small CubeSats, including the first CubeSat built by high school students. The launch was seen from northern Florida to southern Canada.
The Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) was launched back in September from Wallops Island marking the first-ever lunar mission originating from the Virginia facility.
What's on your mind today?
Are regional Space Flight Centers like the Wallops Flight Facility good educational tools? Should there be more emphasis in America on science? Is NASA underfunded?
