On December 19, 1972, US Astronauts met the goals NASA set forth for the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo Programs, with the splashdown of the last Apollo flight, Apollo 17.

NASA announced its seventh group of astronauts on August 14, 1969. It was the last group NASA selected during the Apollo era.
