Chief Deputy Randy Christian of the Jefferson County, Ala. Sheriff's Office reported today that a Birmingham pharmacy had been burglarized early today, September 26, 2013 at 2:45 a.m.
Christian said that deputies responded to a burglar alarm at a pharmacy in the 1500 block of Forestdale Boulevard. When they arrived they found a drive through window had been broken out, through which the persons gained access to the building. A sledge hammer was found near the window,
The deputies called for a canine team to try and track the suspects. The dog tracked them through some shrubs where the tracks ended and it was assumed that a car had been parked there, in which they escaped.
When the manager of the pharmacy arrived and investigated the store, he reported that a quantity of narcotics had been taken.
Deputies accessed the footage from the video surveillance camera and will review it to see what it may reveal of the burglary. In the meantime, they request that anyone who may have any knowledge of this incident to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450 or Birmingham Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. The investigation is ongoing.
