On Thursday, August 11th, the NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC officially endorsed Delegate Adam Ebbin (D-49) in his bid to become the 30th District State Senator.
“Delegate Ebbin’s 100% pro-choice voting record for eight consecutive years in the House proves he has the experience and commitment to protect reproductive freedom for all Virginians,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Executive Director Tarina Keene.
“Both of Delegate Ebbin's 30th District primary opponents, Alexandria Councilman Rob Krupicka and Arlington School Board Member Libby Garvey, are 100-percent pro-choice allies as well, and we are confident if the voters send any of these three candidates to represent them in Richmond, their pro-choice values are in safe hands,” continued Executive Director Keene.
In Northern Virginia, the heated debate over abortion access is a largely party-line position. NOVA Democratic candidates are all but exclusively pro-choice.
For example, Delegate David Englin (D-45) was given a hundred per cent rating by NARAL and praise from Executive Director Keene back in April.
“I’m proud to work hand-in-hand with NARAL to promote prevention and contraception and to defend the right of every person to determine his or her own reproductive destiny,” said Delegate Englin.
State Senator George Barker of the 39th District was a featured speaker at a NARAL event, along with other elected officials from Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax.
By contrast, Republican candidates in Northern Virginia are all but exclusively pro-life, as noted by the remarks made by potential challengers to Barker come November.
“As a Lutheran (Missouri Synod), I believe the life of the innocent must be protected from conception to birth, and throughout adulthood,” said Scott Martin.
“As the Declaration of Independence recognizes, the right to life is unalienable and is the first of all rights. Miller will defend life at all stages,” reads Miller Baker‘s campaign site.
It remains to be seen if the abortion issue plays a role in the upcoming November elections.
