Naples Philharmonic Brass Quartet comes to the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center

On Friday, February 17, the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center will proudly present the Naples Philharmonic Brass Quintet. This exciting chamber group won first prize at the Summit Brass International Music Competition and was runner-up at the Narbonne, France International Brass Quintet Competition.            

Titled SMOKIN' BRASS, the Brass Quintet will perform works by renowned American composer David Sampson, film music composer Ennio Morricone, the great Duke Ellington and others. Selections will include Oblivion by Astor Piazzola, Rounds and Dances by Jan Bach, Western Fanfare by Eric Ewazen and Suite from The Comedians by Dmitry Kabalevsky. 

The Naples Philharmonic Brass Quintet features Michael Zion on trombone, Matthew Sonneborn and David Dash on trumpet, Tracy Leonard on horn, and Aaron McCalla on tuba.

Founded in 1997 by Jim Griffith as Florida Arts, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center provides programming to southwest Florida which includes concerts, theatrical performances, art exhibits, dance, independent film and cotillion. The Art Center regularly recruits award-winning artists who have performed worldwide at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. 
 
Griffith has ties to Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a former member of the Hudson String Quartet, principal violinist of the New York Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra and New York Virtuosi, and co-founder of American Virtuosi. A Juilliard-trained violist, Griffith performs for the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra.
 
As Griffith told Gulfshore Life, “Living in New York for five years (while attending Juilliard), I was exposed to extremely diverse and overwhelming arts and culture. Realizing what that does for the quality of life, and the educational opportunities that provides to the youth, I saw that need in Fort Myers.”
 
The Davis Art Center is located at 2301 First Street in the downtown Fort Myers River District.
