All eyes were on the sky at 9:00 p.m.. when the Naples City Pier pyrotechnic display began, joined by fireworks across the city, visible to those guests of Waterside Shops high in the sky at the top tier of the shopping mall's parking garage. Blue skies and puffs of cloud that turned rose with the setting sun greeted the party attendees. Even the summer bug pests stayed away.
Invitees brought their own chairs, but everything else was furnished at no cost to the revelers by local restaurants and ice cream venders. Beer and wine sales provided funds to benefit the local YMCA. Chad Oliver from NBC-2 was master of ceremonies.
Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the children were treated to balloon hats and animals and provided glow in the dark shakers and necklaces. Contests included hula hoops, July 4 and Waterside trivia and the best dressed for July 4. Prizes donated by the mall shops thrilled the winners.
Colorful dress included older couples decked out in red white and blue sparkling hats, jackets, dresses, shorts and shoes. Contestants ranged from babies to the older generation.
Hula hoops were spun in age categories, the tie breakers using more than one hoop. From the trivia winners, it was obvious who shopped at the mall.
For a birds-eye-view of the fireworks and the city of Naples at sunset, the Waterside Shops Red, White and Blue celebration was the place to be for the Rooftop Party where barbecues and ice cream sundaes were hits. For next year, call 239-598-1605 to RSVP before June 30, 2015. This year was a sell-out event.
